Memories Pt. 1

I just had an overwhelming urge to write down as many memories as I could from my life so far...

I remember Pennsylvania Avenue in New Braunfels. That is where I came home from the hospitable ( I don't actually remember that part.) I remember our dog lovebug chasing me around the living room and my first babysitter Nell who I loved and her ancient dog whose name I sadly have forgotten (and the one time my brother and I rushed in to her house to catch the second part of the Saved By the Bell movie in Las Vegas)
I remember football and the cowboys being very important (My dad, brother and me all dancing to the "Are you ready for some football?!" song.) I remember Ceci and Jose and the whole family at Thanksgivings. I remember Daniel and I making fun of Ceci and her accent! Hahaha.
Heather and the other families on Pennsylvania Ave.
My pink room.... I can still kind of remember my parents room in that house.
The dog with the spot that we gave to my dad's cousin... then it ran away.
Tex our neighbor who always fed the deer in the forest in our backyard. Years later we felt the need to visit Tex at the nursing home he was in so we did... and he passed away just days later. I'm glad we got to say goodbye.
I remember breast feeding a long time! Ahhh!
I remember going over to my Grandma's apartment and making juice ice cubes and eating apples and picking pecans from the ground.
My grandpa and how he smelled like tobacco and antiques and how he sat in his chair.... and his wonderful deep, husky voice.
When my other grandparents lived briefly in our neighborhood... I had a tea party there, helped paint their garage and played old maid with Grandma Hobgood.
I remember my mama's aerobic studio and all her running friends. I always was close to the other fit mother's children like Aubrey and of course my Leigh Leigh.
I remember watching too many scary movies and therefore sleeping with my parents up to an unreasonable age.
Walking up to the Christian Academy.
Seeing our new house as it was being built.
Daniel's friends... some were so nice and some were not.
Daniel's obsession with Metallica and our joint obsession with the Batman soundtrack.
My mama listening to Edith Piaf in the car.
Going over the Barber's beautiful house with their barn in the backyard. I still can imagine myself in that house and in bed with Jerelyn and her plaid blanket and Ginger cuddling with us. And also they had weird plate thingies that went under paper plates... and they always had string cheese.
I remember going over to the Flume's house and thought their basement/living room was so neat and cozy... and loved getting to swim in their pool!
And the Shumways across the street and playing Pretty Pretty Princess with Jennifer.
Watching the Christian Academy gym go from a slab of concrete to whatever it is today.
Being the best napper in Pre-K and Kindgergarten.
Hunter calling me weird... and Andrew's little brother peeing on me. And that one boy who gave me a necklace in Kindergarten! He started early!
The dentist lady teaching me how to brush my teeth... I have used the cleansing techniques ever since.
Going to Dallas to see Amy and French and the one Christmas where I asked "Santa" or whoever was on the phone for a .... witch's broom!
Gizmo... I still miss him so much.
Having to lock the doors in the house and hating being the last one to go to bed.
Becoming best friends with Rachel Williams who was the best best friend a girl like me could have asked for... I was too bossy looking back!
Rachel's Uncle Pat babysitting Daniel and me. He was a talll guy and put a mask on once and scared the living daylights out of us.
Making movies with my friends and forcing Brittany to always be the killer :)
Going to Deer Creek Camp and beginning my friendship with Jordan Emily Walker.
"Elllly Ferrellll.... and Morgan Brodbeck!" Mrs. Kay Walker
Sports.
T Bar M for high school... kind of really rocked there.
I would like to forget what an idiot I was back in those days!!!
Road trip to Florida.
All trips to Florida... sooo many!
I remember when I first met Matt and first talked to him.
First kiss... not to the nice gay boy in the play but my first REAL kiss.
Being Oliver for a middle school play with Mrs. Hair... and my music going out in the middle of my solo.
Miss Virginia Smith with her crackers and high-waisted pants
Kathleen Coster's birthday parties.
The infamous end of the year roller-skating party when I found out the boy I was "going out with" didn't like me anymore :(
The Flores house with Hannah... very nice memories!
Becoming friends with lots of Canyon people! The summer of Jameson and Alex was goood!
Leigh demanding breakfast at the Walkers.
MMmmm Walker breakfast!
All the plays... my favorite being Little Women because I had the most fun with that character and those girls.
Being "sick" freshman year... crazy time.
Having mono and painting my entire room by myself! Sheesh.
Sleeping on the floor in Brittany's room and dressing up like homeless people and walking over to Coach's house.
Coach!!! The best thing that ever happened to our volleyball team.
Little Littlejohn.
I was best defensive player and MVP for basketball and volleyball respectively... but it was the Christian Academy so...
Going to France and Uncle French (haha yes that is his name!) telling us ghost stories on that houseboat with the blackness of night breathing against my back... spppoooky!
Early morning races with my parents and mistaking another slender man with short running shorts for my daddy. Terrifying.
9/11 in Mrs. Ballast's English class.
Mrs. Ballast! Maybe tied with Mr. G. for favorite teacher.

Okay I need a break!

October Sunday Morning!

This weekend has been a swift but wonderful one. On Friday morning I had an audition in Austin. It only took ten minutes so I was looking at an entire day in Austin ahead of me. First I stopped at a goodwill (it's always nice to visit ones in different towns) and got some darn good stuff. Then I went to my favorite little vintage shop on south Lamar and paroozed around until it was time for me to go to lunch with my boy. I was nice and let him choose thundercloud. I was so tired so I got a latte and drank it in Matty's office until my parking time was up.
Now I was impressed and proud with what happened next. I was told to try the Austin Antique Mall but had never been there. I was a bit nervous of getting lost but darn it I did it! I found the place and continued to get lost (the good kind of lost) in it for 2 hours. I love antique shopping by myself because there is no one there to get annoyed when I do my third loop around each vendor's station.
After shopping it was now time to see Never Let Me Go at 4:25 at the drafthouse on S. Lamar. I got there in time to see the other four people (all alone) who would be watching it "with me" scattered across the theatre.
The movie was beautiful but SAD. There was a chilling scene... that I actually can't explain because it would give too much away.
But perfectly the movie let out at 6:15, just in time for me to meet Matt after work. We chillaxed for a while then went to Whole Foods and got lots of good things to go and proceeded to have a picnic in his room while watching Bored to Death (I'm sorry... I don't love it.)
Oh my! That was just Friday!
Saturday I ran a little run, cleaned, ran some errands and then we all went over to the Byrums to watch the Legend of Sleepy Hollow (the cartoon with Bing Crosby!) and then the original House on Haunted Hill!!! After I read some American folklore scary stories we all ventured to the cemetery once the clock striked midnight. There were several attempts to scare one another as we walked amongst the moonlit headstones but I think I was the only successful one when I jumped at Reagan.
Ashley and I parted from the boys hoping to scare them but little did we know that they had already gone back to the cars so there we lied on neighboring graves thinking we heard the boys making noises around us.... now I wonder who was making the rustles and pings :) After 15 minutes we finally headed down to the large iron gates where we saw our two cars waiting for us... their headlights shining at us. We walked slowly like zombies towards them... pretty cool!
Ahhh I love Halloween.

Okay I gots to go get ready for yet another day in Austin! Church day, yay!

Psssh Teenagers.

I was at home home today and was looking at old pictures on my mama's computer. They were from my senior year of high school.
Does anyone else wish they could go back and tell their teenage self not to be such an insecure dummy? I sure do... but then I guess that is just how it goes. Every fashion miss or desperate attempt to be accepted and "cool." I'm happy to say I never engaged in drinking or drugs ( I knew even then that that wasn't cool) but I was so self conscious. I'm thankful for the changes that have occurred since then and the woman I'm growing into. I'm finally starting to feel like myself!
The word "Christian" is not meant to be an adjective. When you place the word that should be used as a verb (us taking the actions Jesus called for us to take in love) and put it before music, man, car or company... the nouns that soon replace them are nut job, jerk, extremist.
I recently heard a story about an old classmate of mine who thought it necessary to witness to a coworker just because he didn't know any "popular" Christian music. So because I don't listen to Klove does that mean I don't love Jesus?
When we use the word that is meant to show our humbleness and respect to the man we truly believe is the savior of our souls and place it before music that very well may have been made to sound just like every other song of its kind with no heart or purpose behind it... "Christian" loses a bit of its meaning and power.
I'm not saying all Christian music is with out heart and true love... There are a few artists who I can tell have meaning in their words and aren't just generic drones.
Most of my songs are very spiritual because they come from inside of me and from me looking at creation and the ways it reflects God.
Just be careful how you throw out the term Christian because I feel like most of what it is associated with today isn't of Jesus at all.

Also... if you have a bumper sticker saying something about Jesus and then angrily cut people off in traffic... you may want to think about taking it off.
It is our responsibility to try our hardest to represent Christ's perfection and love!
Let people know who you follow by what you do. I fail everyday but we all gots to keep trying, ya'll!

Here It Goes!

The Sunday morning weekend so far recap:

Thursday: Midnight premiere of The Social Network in Austin (So frickkin goood)
Friday: Too tired from the midnight premiere to go to school :) So I woke up to coffee and breakfast, then had a nice walk, went to the grocery store, went back to the grocery store because I decided to make cupcakes, made said cupcakes, took Annabella the sweet dog my neighbors are dogsitting for a walk and then boyfriend arrived. We walked downtown in the lovely night air and got Chinese food to go. We had a picnic in my apartment while we ate and watched 30 Rock and the Office.
Saturday: I forgot the words to the National Anthem at this Health Fair in NB (Thank you mom for signing me up for that one), got a new (really old) vacuum cleaner, went for a walk with the boy, had lunch at the coffee pot, found the cutest Corgi up for adoption at Petsmart (if the timing had been right then Matt would have taken her), went to Best Buy, picked up Glynn, went to Hastings, sat outside Chipotle and watched Glynn eat, Dropped Glynn off, cleaned my apartment, cooked a nice pasta dinner, watched Gilmore Girls and hung out.
Oh and Matty bought me pink panasonic headphones!!!! I'll use them when I record songs :)
He got white ones!
Now it is Sunday morning and I'm going to finish my coffee and cinnamon harvest cereal and go for a run!
